These shots were taken on Earth Day, at the "Green" Artsmarts grant project, finale. Here some of the students are working on a mural that will permanently hang in the elementary school. I was thrilled to work with each of the ten classes at Eileen Madsen Primary. Thanks everyone!

28/03: reality shift

Recently, I've been looking over the photos I paint from and the finished paintings. I thought it would be interesting to post a comparison with a couple, to show the way in which my style shifts from 'reality'. I am intrigued by art in this way that it is in part, the precious translation of each artist that makes the creation sacred. The process that evolves consciously and unconsciously as each piece 'becomes'. In my own art, I am curious about the way the paintings, become what they become. I use thick textures even in the undercoats, so that when the top layers are applied, there is a loss of control, as the undercoats dictate where the subsequent paint can fall. This reminds me of the beauty of watercolour paint, when the artist lets the watercolour be watercolour.

07/03: studio life

I have been working steadily and regularly in the studio. At times I feel crowded by so many canvases competing for my undivided attention, all at different stages of Being........mainly I feel joy.....having a space for the first time, that is reserved solely for making art. I have stepped into a new reality, often more lonely, but one that cuts straight to "me". The art is changing, I've seen it shift. Looking at older pieces, the present works are emerging as a "series" unto themselves.
